DESTINY IS NOT THE DEATH OF A GIRL, BUT ART IS...

Today I am in love! I am touched immensely by Murat Morova’s artwork “Destiny” which is situated on the left once you enter the “Small is Beautiful” artshow at Kuad Gallery. The main theme of the art show is inspired by E.F Schumacher’s famous quote: “Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.” so as you can image, the artshow is showing many artworks very small in size but big in affect. Just like this particular piece. This piece emphasizes the rise, threat and unstoppable danger of girls just at the age of 9 -18 getting married with the approval/force of their family. This act of ignorance can only end in severe death, whether physical or emotional. Taken from a newspaper article describing the death of the 14 year old girl named “Kader / Destiny” which had been married at the age of 12, not only irritates the viewer but also attracts more attention to the subject. The artist not only uses the article but also poses it on Arabic writing supposedly from the Quran as the Holy Book Quran has such rights for girls of young age.

RIP Kader Ertem… This is to you.
